Group Fitness
Why work out alone when others can motivate you to do your best? Variety is what makes the Group Fitness Program at Campus Recreation so popular. We offer an assortment of classes at various times to fit your schedule. We are sure that you will find something that will provide the motivation to achieve your goals or the challenge to improve your level of fitness.
All Group Fitness Classes are held in the Rec Room on the lower level of the Spencer Student Recreation Center. No sign-up or pre-registration is required to attend regular classes (Progressive Classes are an exception) and all classes are FREE to WIU students and other Spencer SRC members - just a swipe of your ID and you're in!

Policies and Procedures
- Arrive at least 5 minutes prior to class to receive directions from the instructor.
- Leave all coats, bags, and other personal belongings in lockers.
- Enter class more than 5 minutes after its scheduled time at your own risk. An appropriate warm-up (provided during each class) is essential to prevent injuries.
- Wear comfortable clothing that allows for freedom of movement and flow of air. Avoid long baggy pants, sweatshirts, and denim.
- Wear comfortable footwear that provides adequate support.
- Return all equipment to its appropriate place after each class.
Class Descriptions
20-20-20
- The challenge of cardio, resistance training, and yoga or core strength combined into one!
- Push your body to the limit with this new class that gives you an all-over, well-balanced workout.
Abs 'N Ends
- Do you want to firm and tighten you buns, thighs, and abs?
- This is the resistance training class that targets the abdominal, back, and gluteal muscles.
Aqua Cardio Tone
- You can do TBC (Total Body Conditioning) in the water!
- Try an exhilarating water workout that's easy on your joints and allows you to battle the resistance of the water.
- Combine cardio and toning to give yourself a total body workout that leaves you refreshed and empowered.
- No swimming experience is necessary!
- Located in the Spencer SRC Aquatics center.
Belly Dancing
- Enhance your inner beauty while sliding, circling, and rolling to become more fit!
- Learn to incorporate movements and dance routines that transform your body and mind.
- No experience is necessary!
Body Sculpt
- Like resistance training? Need to do more? This is the class for you!
- Strengthen and define every part of your body and reach your goals in just 50 minutes.
Cardio Funk
- Get your workout moving to hip hop music during this fun filled exhilarating class.
- Show off your moves and dance to the beat of the music!
- No experience is necessary!
Circuit Blast
- Blast away the pounds in this fun, 30-minute class!
- Enjoy a variety of exercises that keep your heart rate up and help tone muscles.
Circuit Training 101
- 30 to 50 minutes of instructor-led weight training
- Move through the circuit and develop your muscular strength and endurance.
- Classes are instructed by students from Campus Recreation and Department of Kinesiology.
Core Express
- No time to spare? Try this fast class!
- Sculpt your abdominals, obliques, and back in 15 minutes of intense core training.
Cycle
- Experience 50 minutes of nothing but the best cycle!
- Cycle your way through a high intensity cardio workout that includes sprints, hills, jumps, flats, and much more!
Cycle BOSU
- Experience the ride of your life in this more than your ordinary cycle class that incorporates sprints, jumps, hills, and flats in 30 minutes.
- Following Cycle is the newest craze - 20 minutes of toning "Both Sides Up" on our BOSU balls for an experience you'll never forget.
Dance
Fitness Studio West
- Bring a partner and learn basic social dance!
- No experience is needed.
- Dance shoes are not necessary.
- Learn swing, rumba, cha cha and salsa.
Hard Core
- Your results will amaze you.
- Let this blistering non-stop core training class, which focuses on various abdominal and back exercises solidify your middle.
Kickbox Core
- Knock out your aggression! Kick, duck, and jab your way to the finish!
- A 10-minute, all-out abs section will follow the intense cardio segment to help you develop a strong core.
Step 'N Sculpt
- Thirty minutes of all out cardio step to help you get your sweat on!
- Followed by twenty minutes of total body resistance training completely dedicated to sculpting your bod!
Totally BOSU
Fitness
- 30 minutes of cardio and/or resistance training on the BOSU
- Work on cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and muscular endurance while working on balance and stability.
Yoga
- Clear your mind while you stretch your body
- Release your tension and just relax!
- No experience is needed.
YogaFit
- An active style of yoga that focuses on strength and flexibility.
- Fitness Oriented.
- No experience is needed.
Zumba

- Zumba is cardio-based with components of resistance training.
- Latin inspired, dance-fitness class that incorporates Latin and international dance.
