Windows XP Updates - Using Windows Update

Other Windows Updates

These are new programs or systems enhancements that do not have to be installed. In most cases, they are improvements over common Windows features. We install the most recent versions when we install your hardware. Over time we may contact areas and inform them that they need to do a Windows Update to improve the way their computer is working.
These updates are performed using Internet Explorer Internet Explorer

1. Start internet explorer.
2. Select Tools from the main menu.
3. Select Windows Update.

4. Once the WEB page has loaded, select Scan for Updates Scan for updates

5. Once it has completed, you will see the review updates screen.
The screen has two main areas:

The first is the Windows update box (left hand side).
Update catagories This shows the updates that need to be performed by catagory.
1. Critical Updates
2. Windows Updates
3. Driver Updates


The second is the main window (right hand side) that shows the update dialog.

6. Press the review and install link. The Total Updates and the estimated time is displayed. Install

Press install and the copyright notice will appear.

Press the Accept button.

The install dialog will now appear.

After the download and install is complete, you will have to restart your computer.

The Windows update process has to be done multiple times until there are no more updates for your computer.

The first updates it will do are the critical updates. Next it will do the Windows and Driver updates that can be done together. Then it will do the updates that must be done by themselves.
