Windows XP DESKTOP

Windows XP uses user profiles on the machine to set up how the screen will look to the user. By default the Windows XP desktop is set up with little to no icons on the desktop. When a user logs into the computer, the users desktop is then displayed or created if the user has never logged onto the workstation before.
DOSS - Default Desktop While this is a very bland desktop to start, you can then customize it however you want it to look in just a few minutes. By default we have set up the core programs that we use in two locations.
1. Three programs have been pinned to the start menu: Explorer, GroupWise and MVS.
2. The same three programs have been added to the quick launch.

In addition, we have set the default background, screen saver, start menu and more. This section will detail how you change these items and customize your desktop. When a different user logs into the computer you have customized, he/she will receive the default desktop and can customize his/her own.
There are two main components on the desktop.
1. The work area - main area where the programs/applications are viewed
   a. Changing the settings of the desktop, background, screen saver and more
2. The taskbar - access to the programs and applications
   a. Unlocking and locking the taskbar
   b. Moving the taskbar
   c. Changing the properties of the taskbar
