Windows XP DESKTOP - Changing the taskbar Properties

You can customize how your start menu looks by right mouse clicking on the Start button or anywhere on the taskbar and then selecting properties from the menu. DOSS - Default Desktop

TASKBAR TAB
On the taskbar tab you have two main sections:
1. Taskbar appearance
   a. Lock the taskbar - This keeps the taskbar in place. By unchecking this, you can move the taskbar around screen and make it larger.
   b. Auto hide the taskbar - This hides the taskbar when not in use. To see the taskbar again, you have to move your mouse to the edge of the screen where the taskbar should be and it will reappear.
   c. Keep taskbar on top of other windows - When checked, the taskbar will always be on top of the other windows that are showing.
   d. Group similar taskbar buttons - When checked, a program like Internet Explorer will only show once on the taskbar. A number will show how many windows are running and what the name of the window is.
   e. Show quick launch - When checked the quick launch is visible on the taskbar

2. Notification area
   a. Show clock - Make the clock visible or not.
   b. Hide inactive icons - Hides inactive icons that are in the system tray.

By default we have set the default desktop as follows:
1. Taskbar is locked
2. Keep taskbar on top of other windows
3. Show quick launch
4. Clock is visible
5. Hide inactive icons

START MENU TAB
The start menu tab allows you to change the look of the start menu. There are two main options:

Start Menu - This is the standard Windows XP start menu (set by default).

Classic Start Menu - This is the traditional Windows 95/98 start menu.

Both of these can be customized further.
