Accessing the desktop properties
Right mouse click anywhere on the desktop.
When the menu comes up, select properties. |

THEMES - TAB
The first window that you will see is the themes window. Here you can change the desktop theme. A theme changes the look and feel of all the windows screens to include the desktop. By default, we have the machines set up using the Windows XP theme.
There are multiple themes available to include the ability to go on-line and find more.

DESKTOP - TAB
The desktop tab is where you can change the background image on your desktop. There are 3 main features here:
1. Background image box - you select the image that you want displayed on your desktop. You can also use the browse button to look for more images.
2. Position list - this is how the image will be displayed on your desktop. Your options are:Center - the image is centered on the desktop. Tiled - multiple copies of the image are displayed. Stretch - the image is stretched to fit the desktop.
3. Color - here you can select the background color to be displayed.
NOTE: You can add your own personal image by copying the picture to C:\Windows\, then use the browse button to find the image.

SCREEN SAVER - TAB
Here you can change the screen saver that your desktop will use, when it will start, and whether you have to use a password to access your desktop after the screen saver starts.
To change the screen saver just pick one from the pull down list.
NOTE: By default we are setting up machines with password protection on the screen saver. When you are asked for your password to get back into your desktop, enter your network password.
In addition, you can change your monitor power management settings from this tab. We have set default power management settings on all computers, but if you do not like our default settings, you can change them here.

APPEARANCE - TAB
The appearance tab is another location that you can modify how your desktop looks and acts.
There are 4 main items you can change:
Windows and button styles
The color scheme
Default font size
Special effects
The advanced tab lets you customize each and every color used by XP to display your windows and menus.

SETTINGS - TAB
The settings tab lets you change the screen resolution and how many colors are displayed.
NOTE: The advanced tab is for advanced video card settings. Please contact the help desk before you make changes to these settings.
