Financial Aid

Welcome to Financial Aid

The mission of the Western Illinois University Office of Financial Aid is to provide all students and their families with resources for success through efficient and timely customer service, equitable disbursement of financial awards, and educational programming related to financial literacy. Through these actions, our goal is to maintain a positive environment that will help create opportunities for equal access to post-secondary education and increase student retention.

No need to apply for Summer 2024 Financial Aid!

Summer 2024 aid eligibility will be determined using registered hours and remaining 2023-24 aid eligibility*. Once a student is registered, financial aid will determine aid eligibility and notify the student via email using their WIU email address. Processing will begin early April 2024 and will occur in order of registration.

*Students graduating Summer 2024 or Fall 2024 who have completed a 2024-25 FAFSA may be able to “borrow” financial aid eligibility from the 2024-25 academic year. This will be noted on your award notification, if applicable.

2024-25 FAFSA Delays

The U.S. Department of Education announced earlier this week that there will be a further delay in processing the 2024-25 FAFSA.

Western Illinois University students and families can, and should, file the FAFSA, and we encourage you to complete the FAFSA as soon as you can. The Department of Education estimates that WIU will receive the results of a student’s FAFSA in mid-to-late March.

We encourage students and families to use the Net Price Calculator utilizing the same components used to file the FAFSA to get an estimate of your financial aid.
