Financial Aid Abbreviations
- AGI: Adjusted Gross Income. Taxable income as reported on Federal income tax return
- AY: Academic year. Academic year includes fall, spring and summer terms
- COA: Cost of Attendance
- DE: U.S Department of Education
- DRN: Data Release Number (FAFSA)
- EFC: Expected Family Contribution
- FAFSA: Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Required for federal (grants/loans) and state (MAP grant) aid. Complete the FAFSA each academic year no earlier than January 1st for the next academic year.
- FFELP: Federal Family Education Loan Program
- FSEOG: Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant. A campus-based program; grants are given to undergraduate students of exceptional financial need.
- FWS: Federal Work Study
- IIA*: Illinois Incentive Access Program: To be eligible students must be freshman standing and have exceptional financial need.
- Independent Student: To qualify as an independent student you must
- Be born before January 1, 1984 (for the 07-08 academic year)
OR
- Be enrolled in a graduate degree program
OR
- Be married as of date the FAFSA was filed
OR
- Have dependents other than a spouse who lives with you
OR
- Be a ward of the court/dependent of the state
OR
- Be a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces
OR
- Both parents are deceased
- ING*: Illinois National Guard Grant that pays tuition and activity fees.
- ISAC: Illinois Student Assistant Commission
- IVG*: Illinois Veteran Grant that pays tuition and mandatory fees.
- MAP*: Monetary Assistance Program Grant that is based on financial need. Illinois residency is required and no repayment is necessary.
- MPN: Master Promissory Note
- NSLDS: National Student Loan Data System
- PIN: Personal Identification Number
- PLUS: Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students. Parents may apply online at http://fa.wiu.edu/preapp. Dependent students whose parents are denied a PLUS loan may be eligible for an additional Stafford Loan.
- SAR: Student Aid Report: Document you will receive after your FAFSA is processed. Your SAR will list all of the answers you provided on your FAFSA
