Learning to Lead Scholars Program Application
In order to apply for the Learning to Lead Scholars Program you must submit the following documents:
- Application Form (application available in Adobe PDF format. Adobe Reader is required. If you require an application in an alternative format, please contact Joan Maze at JE-Maze@wiu.edu or 309/298-3232.)
- Resume. Include a one page resume outlining your educational background, honors, recognitions, work experience, activities, special skills, foreign language skills, and/or computer skills.
- Two letters of recommendation. At least one of these letters must be from a faculty member (neither should be from a family member or friend).
- Print out the recommendation form
- Fill out top portion and sign the waiver statement
- Have the reference complete the form and put it in a sealed envelope
- Recommendations should be returned to the student or mailed directly to Joan Maze in the Office of Student Activities.
- Essay. On a separate sheet of paper, compose a 2-3 page essay detailing the importance of leadership in your life. Your essay should include:
- Specific examples of ways you have exemplified leadership
- Your description of what a successful leader is and/or the qualities of an exceptional leader
- The reasons you would like to be a part of the Learning to Lead Scholars Program
- What you feel the program can offer you, and
- What you feel you can contribute to the program.
- Essay should be:
- Typed
- Double Spaced
- On 8.5 x 11 paper
- Type your name on the top of each page
- We suggest saving an electronic copy of your essay.
- Transcript. Submit an official copy of your transcript(s). Unofficial or copies of transcripts will not be accepted. Freshmen and new transfer students who are currently completing their first semester at WIU can submit their transcripts separate from the rest of their application materials. Transcripts must be received no later than January 31, 2008.
