Mission
The mission of the Office of Student Activities is to provide students with practical, educational, and leadership opportunities that complement the academic experience and foster a sense of belonging. This is accomplished by offering support, knowledge, and resources to both individual students and student orginzations in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of cultural, social, educational and service programs.
What We Do
The Office of Student Activities is designed to provide students with personal growth and development while ensuring that a spectrum of programs are provided to the campus, community, and Western Illinois region.
The major functions and objectives of the Office of Student Activities include the following:
- To assess the needs of the student population and provide purposeful programs that address those needs.
- To provide a comprehensive leadership development program which offers leadership education and training opportunities for individual students and student organizations.
- To provide staff advisors for several core organizations and assist them in planning programs and maintaining operations. These organizations include:
- Student Government Association
- Council of Student Activities Funds
- University Union Board
- TEAMLEAD
- Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, & Multicultural Greek Council
- WAVE (Western's All Volunteer Effort)
- Western Technical Services
- Learning to Lead
- CRASH (Creating Relationships and Advocating Social Humanity)
- To authorize registration for student organizations and maintain an organization database of presidents and advisors.
- To maintain the Student Organization Center and provide leadership and educational resources to student organizations through the center.
- To coordinate and oversee the Visiting Lectures Committee and the student leader talent grant/tuition waiver programs.
