Welcome Letters

Assistant Director of Student Activities for Greek Life Programs

Welcome to Greek Life at Western Illinois University! Your years in college will include several different and exciting experiences, but Will Foran none of those opportunities have the potential to be as complete as your experience as a member of a fraternity or sorority. The core purpose of each fraternity and sorority is to create better men and women through leadership, service, scholarship, and social opportunities. Although each chapter is unique, every organization promotes similar values and ideals.

Western Illinois University is proud of its strong Greek tradition. We offer 16 national fraternities and 11 national sororities for students to choose from. Members of our organizations are heavily involved in campus and community organizations as well as in all-Greek committees like Greek Week, Rho Lambda, and Order of Omega.

As you look through our website, you will find various information, chapter facts, and pictures of the Greek community in action. If you would like additional information or want to become involved in a fraternity or sorority, please contact the Office of Student Activities.

Welcome to Western Illinois University and Greek Life! A comprehensive collegiate experience is built on a challenging academic program, involvement in university life, and cooperation with and respect for other campus community members. It is no secret that greek involvement contributes significantly to the learning experiences that occur for students outside the classroom. The decision to join a fraternity or sorority can be one of the most rewarding decisions a college student can make during their college years. Joining the right fraternity/sorority can help develop an individual in many facets of life, including scholarship, leadership, social, service, and integrity.

I believe you'll find that involvement in a Greek organization helps foster personal development unlike any other campus organization. Often times, the intimate relationships formed through brotherhood or sisterhood last a lifetime. Friendship, honor and integrity, loyalty, academic achievement, leadership, service to community and alma mater, and personal responsibility are but a few of the ideals promoted in a sorority or fraternity. I encourage you to get involved and participate in campus life to enjoy your college experience to its fullest extent.

Best wishes! I hope you have an enjoyable and educational Western experience.

Western Illinois University is proud to have a tradition of outstanding fraternities and sororities. The leadership and service opportunities available to Western students through these organizations have benefited both students and the University community.

Volunteerism is an important part of sorority and fraternity life at Western Illinois University. Many worthwhile campus and community causes have received financial and service donations through the generosity of our students who are members of these organizations.

At Western our strong academic programs are complemented by the personal growth provided through participation in charitable and service organizations. The volunteer efforts by our fraternities and sororities make a vital contribution to our local and regional communities.

When seeking activities and involvement outside the classroom, I encourage students to consider the opportunities available in our recognized fraternities and sororities at Western Illinois University.
