Involvement in leadership activities and/or positions is highly encouraged. The reason for this is that studies have consistently shown that students who are involved in different types of leadership activities are more likely to succeed and persist in college. Involvement in leadership activities is also important for students looking at job or graduate work after graduation as employers and graduate schools weigh this as part of the application process.
There are a myriad of leadership opportunities afforded to students living in residence life. The most traditional leadership opportunities are afforded through hall government. Students can be floor representatives or elected officials in the halls or Graduate & Family Housing. Please visit the Student Government Association (SGA) web site.
Inter-Hall Council is a student organization that acts as the governing body of the students living in the residence halls. It's IHC's goal to represent the views and concerns of all students living in the halls to administration and provide programming for all students. Each hall selects representatives to speak on behalf of all the students living in that hall and bring important issues to hall governments. For more information about IHC, visit their web site.
