Involvement in leadership activities and/or positions is highly encouraged. The reason for this is that studies have consistently shown that students who are involved in different types of leadership activities are more likely to succeed and persist in college. Involvement in leadership activities is also important for students looking at job or graduate work after graduation as employers and graduate schools weigh this as part of the application process.
There are a myriad of leadership opportunities afforded to students at WIU. The most traditional leadership opportunities are afforded through hall government. There are opportunities for students to become Graduate & Family Housing representatives. Please visit the Student Government Association (SGA) web site.
If you have an interest, WIU probably has a group you can join, including academic honors societies, sports clubs, and service organizations.
