Welcome to Western Illinois University's University Housing and Dining Services (UHDS). We are excited that you want to make WIU your choice for your college experience.
Living on campus in the residence halls will afford you the ability to live where it all happens on campus. You will be close to your classes, meet new people and create lifelong friendships. Our commitment is to provide students with a safe, affordable and well-maintained place to live that is stimulating and supportive of the academic mission of the university.
Studies show that students who live on campus experience a higher rate of success both academically and socially. Living on campus makes it easier to get involved in student organizations and campus life. Regardless of which hall you call home at WIU, your experience is sure to be dynamic, educational and memorable.
First-year students at Western live in one of our three First Year Experience (FYE) halls. Our FYE communities give first-year students the opportunity to live, study and experience all the fun college has to offer together. Through the FYE academic and living experience students will be able to connect with people who share their academic and social interests.
The residence halls at Western provide students a place to create their own college experience by getting involved on campus. Living in the halls gives students the opportunity to create a home within the University community. The best way to learn about the opportunities in the halls is to explore our pages on each of the halls.
As soon as you're admitted to Western, it is time to choose where you would like to live. You will make your housing selection by submitting a housing application. Room assignments are made based on the date that the application, deposit and fee are received by the Assignments Office, so the earlier you apply for housing, the better. Find out how to apply for housing.
Halls will open for new student check-in beginning at 8 am on Saturday, August 23, 2008. Although move-in day can seem hectic with a lot of people with a lot of stuff all wanting the elevator at the same time, you can actually expect the process to take about 60 minutes or less. Find out more information on the move-in process.
Studies have consistently shown that students who are involved in different types of leadership activities are more likely to succeed and persist in college. There are a myriad of leadership opportunities afforded to students living in residence life. Find out more information on how you can get involved once you are settled in.
