How To Apply for Housing

As soon as you're admitted to Western, it is time to choose where you would like to live. Make your housing selection by submitting a housing application. Room assignments are made based on the date that we receive your application, which includes:

The earlier you apply for housing, the better.

University Housing and Dining Services encourages all students to apply for housing on-line. To proceed though this on-line process, you must be able to pay the $100.00 housing deposit (and $250 prepay if after May 1st) with a credit card (or debit card with a major credit card logo).

The Housing Application Packet

Included in the materials newly-accepted freshmen receive with their Welcome Packet are directions for applying for on-campus housing online. (If you need to pay your housing deposit by cash or check, you must mail in the bottom portion of the Housing Sheet found in the Welcome Packet. We will mail you a paper copy of the application in a few weeks.) The housing application packet includes the following information:

Dorm room

Because you will be asked to complete a preference form in the housing application, you will want to familiarize yourself with the different living options that we offer. Please see the community living options section of our web site for more information. Also ensure that you have your WIU ID number ready. Your WIU ID number is indicated below your certificate of admission that was sent in your Welcome Packet.

Eligibility

Only students who have been admitted to the University can apply for housing in the residence halls. The online application can be completed by any newly accepted student that has never previously lived in the residence halls or attended WIU. (If you previously attended WIU, you must apply for housing in person. E-mail uhds@wiu.edu or call 309/298-2461 for details.)

Room and Board Costs

It is the goal of University Housing and Dining Services to keep all costs as low as possible for students while providing a quality learning environment for our students. When considering the entire package that we offer we believe we offer a quality housing program at a great value. We are the only housing program in the State of Illinois to participate in the cost guarantee program. The price you pay as a first year student will be the price you pay during your 4 years at WIU. These Room Rates are the tentative semester rates for an academic year.
