Benefits of Leadership - Involvement in leadership activities and/or positions is highly encouraged. The reason for this is that studies have consistently shown that students
who are involved in different types of leadership activities are more likely to succeed and persist in college. Involvement in leadership activities is also important for students
looking at job or graduate work after graduation as employers and graduate schools weigh this as part of the application process. Most importantly, however, leadership
development will help students hone the skills and make the relationships which will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
Leadership Opportunities - There are a myriad of leadership opportunities afforded to students living in residence life. The most traditional leadership opportunities are afforded through hall government. Students can be floor representatives or elected officials in the halls or GFH. Other leadership opportunities are afforded via student
employment. RAs and desk assistants are given a great amount of responsibility that enhances their leadership skills. Anyone can be a leader and if students have ideas
regarding starting groups or ways to create further leadership opportunities, those ideas are always welcomed by residence life staff.
